The AI computing power boom is triggering a supply chain storm: Server memory prices have surged by 60%, and tech giants are scrambling to secure supplies

2026-01-14

Driven by the AI computing power boom, there is a global shortage of server memory/flash memory supply. Samsung and SK Hynix saw their server DRAM prices surge by 50%-60% in the first quarter, and tech giants like Google and Microsoft are scrambling to secure supplies.  Simultaneously benefiting from the increased demand for AI server components, Intel's Xeon CPU orders have surged, with orders for the entire year of 2026 already almost completely sold out. This supply-demand imbalance across the supply chain is triggering a chain reaction of cost increases.

NVIDIA's entire range of GPUs is experiencing differentiated market trends, with the L40S becoming a highly sought-after product for enterprise-level AI applications.

2025-12-24

Recently, the prices and supply and demand of various NVIDIA computing GPUs have shown a clear divergence, which is a key focus for current enterprise procurement: the price of supercomputing-grade H100/A100 GPUs is continuously falling due to the iteration of new products based on the next-generation Blackwell architecture, with H100 cloud rental prices dropping below 50,000 RMB per month; the NVIDIA L40S ADA computing accelerator card, however, maintains a stable price and is experiencing a surge in demand.  With its 48GB GDDR6 large memory, full-speed PCIe 4.0 interface, and passive cooling compatibility, it has become a mainstream choice for AI inference, edge computing, and enterprise-level deep learning. Cloud rental prices are approximately $1.57 per hour, and it is the standard GPU for flagship GPU servers such as the Supermicro 4125GS-TNRT.  There is ample stock available, and no price increase is expected for the time being.
